What is Prom Plus?

As an alternative to an unchaperoned party, Prom Plus offers a supervised post-prom event held at the Crescenta-Cañada YMCA. Since 1994, from midnight to 5:00 a.m., Prom Plus has provided a variety of activities, including a full casino with blackjack and Texas Hold’em, poker, craps, roulette, and pool tables. There are also a mechanical bull, gyroscope, photo booth, rock climbing wall, bungee jump, magicians, and even temporary tattoos artists.
We have a food court that all night keeps our guests fed and prizes are distributed to
those seniors who stay until 5 a.m. Admission is included in the cost of a prom ticket and
Prom Plus is open to all seniors whether or not they attend the prom. For those seniors who
don’t attend prom, but want to attend Prom Plus, they pay just $20 at the door at midnight.

Making Prom Plus part of prom plans is evident as attendance is now better than 50% of
CVHS seniors and their guests.

Why is there a Prom Plus?

Berlyn Cosman, a Crescenta Valley High School senior, was murdered while sleeping at an
unsupervised, post prom hotel party in 1991.  The response to this tragedy was the creation
of an event for our high school seniors after the dance, something that would keep our kids
local and safe, yet still provide them with a fun time.  This event is Prom Plus.

What does it involve?

The cost of putting on this annual event is in excess of $20,000.  We hold a variety of fundraisers throughout the year, including annual barbecues for the high school’s Back to School Night and Open House; hosting our popular annual Holiday Boutique; and creating the Taste of Montrose to showcase the many fine restaurants that our city has to offer.  We also participate in the Kiwanis Incredible Duck Splash and Relay for Life.

Prom Plus Club . . .

A CVHS Prom Plus Club has been created to encourage student involvement in our events, while raising our visibility on campus. Club members have participated in the Relay for Life for cancer awareness, coordinated volunteers for the Montrose Christmas Parade, attend the Hometown Country Fair plus much more. Our Prom Plus Club members work hard and care about our community and have evolved into one of the most dynamic, sought-after group of volunteers in the community.

So far . . .

Our growing attendance over the last several years proves that our idea has been a good one. We are always looking for creative “fun-raising” ideas and rely on the generosity of the community to recognize and support this worthy cause.

How can you help?

We hope that you will participate in our local events, such as the Taste of Montrose, Holiday Boutique, and choose our team for the Kiwanis Duck Splash and Relay for Life.   Encourage your CV senior to attend our event.  If you would like to make a donation, please make your check payable to Prom Plus and mail to the address above. We also appreciate donations of prizes and gift certificates to be given to the students attending our event every May and welcome you to join us as a volunteer.
